Opting out of Emails

If you want your students to be able to opt out of receiving emails, use the merge tag in Touchpoints, Adhocs and Campaigns to link to the students My Contact Preferences page.

To add the link, simply select the merge field "Opt-out Link" to insert the tag.

  • For Touchpoints and Ad-hocs, use [xxxOptOutLink|update your contact preferences herexxx]

  • For Student Campaigns, use {|Student_OptOutLink|Access my privacy centre|}

  • For Contact Campaigns, use {|Contact_OptOutLink|My Contact Preferences|}

You can then edit the text after "OptOutLink|" to personalise your message.

Please note: it is only possible to add letters, spaces and numbers to the link text, so any special characters such as . , ' " / ( ) ? ! etc., will cause the link to not be functional when viewed in the email.

Opting out of SMS

To give Students the option of opting out of marketing SMS, simply select the merge tag from the Merge Tag dropdown.

As with the email opt-out tags, be aware, there are two versions of this opt-out tag:

  • For Touchpoints, use [xxxSmsOptOutLinkxxx]

  • For Campaigns, use {|SmsOptOutLink|}

❗ You may notice a difference between the Touchpoints/Adhocs tag and the Campaigns tags. This is because the two systems are different and it's therefore important to ensure you're using the correct tag.

FAQs

Q. Can I use this in Contact Manager (CTM)?

A. Contacts in CTM work on a different system to the rest of the platform, so you'll need to use the special CTM opt-out link. This is found in the merge tag dropdown as "Contacts Optout", and looks like this: {|Contact_OptOutLink|My Contact Preferences|} .

Q. The link is broken when I click on it! I get an error which says "Oops! That page couldn’t be found. Please contact the person who sent you the email."

A. Ensure you're not currently logged into the Platform, or use an Incognito/ Private window to view the link and it will work.

Q. Why does the Opt-out link sometimes go to "Branksome Uni"?

A. When you preview a Touchpoint or Adhoc, the platform uses the "John Doe" record to fill in example information. "John's" privacy link directs to an example account in our testing establishment, "Branksome Uni".

❗ Please note that Campaigns' previews uses a Real Student's UUID. The Opt-out link will take you to their live Privacy Centre. As such you should not alter any settings.
